Zako, Bernards Culture Unit Head, UNESCO Jakarta

Mr. Bernards A. Zako graduated from the Ecole du Louvre, the Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations and the Institute of Political Studies, in Paris, and also studied in the Institute of Arab Studies, Damascus. He has over 20 years of working experience at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in planning, managing and implementing international cultural cooperation projects. He worked mainly on cultural policy and intercultural dialogue (Arab and Islamic world, Eastern Europe and Africa) and on museums and creativity. Mr Zako currently heads the Culture Unit of UNESCO Office in Jakarta since 2014 and is in charge of cultural programmes on World Heritage, tourism, community development, intangible cultural heritage, museums, underwater cultural heritage and cultural diversity in five cluster countries: Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and TimorāLeste.
